Darjeeling Adventure Tourism’s representative will welcome you on your arrival at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP)/ Bagdogra Airport. Then you will be staring your journey towards Kalimpong. It will take approx 3 hours to cover the distance of 72.5 km. Kalimpong situated at the proximity of the old silk route at an elevation of 4079 ft. On your journey you will experience mesmerising view of lofty green mountains and roaring and dancing River Teesta. On your way by the side of Teesta you can stop for a while to offer short prayer in Sevoke Kalibari (temple of goddess Kali). It is a nice way to start the uphill journey. Reach Kalimpong and check into the hotel room already reserved for you. The rest of the day is reserved for you, take a stroll in an around the local market for relics and handicrafts or visit any nursery or else taste some tongue tickling local delicacies. You may also get absorbed in surrounding nature to find your own self. Stay overnight at Kalimpong.
Have your breakfast at hotel and after that go for your local half day sightseeing of Durpin Dara. The local word Durpin is synonymous to binocular and Dnara means hill top. Together it means a hilltop from where you can see far away. There is a Tibetan monastery located on the Durpin Dara, Durpin Monastery. From the upper terrace of the monastery, you get magnificent views of Kalimpong town with Kanchenjunga in the background, the valley and the plains, Teesta & Reang Rivers flowing down, and lovely tea estates of Peshoke area. Pine view Cactus Nursery has a great collection of cactus and ornamental plants will be your next destination. You get a great view of Kalimpong town from the backside lawn. Next you will be visiting Mangal Dham a temple complex built in the memory of late Guruji Mangal Dasji and dedicated to Lord Krishna.
Another attraction of Kalimpong is Dr. Graham’s Home. This missionary school was set up by Dr. J A Graham in 1900 as an orphanage cum school for the destitute Anglo Indian children. It is located on the way to Deolo Hills and you can walk across to various parts of the school. Deolo is an 8-acre lush parkland with manicured flower gardens and several view points with breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga. There is one Hanuman Mandir (Temple) situated on the hill. You can take a short hike towards the temple to witness mesmerising and breathtaking view of world’s 3rd highest peak Mt. Kanchenjunga (28,169 ft) in its full glory on a sunny day. You can get a clear view of the neighbouring state Sikkim and the surrounding landscapes of lava and Kafer hills.
Then have your lunch and start for Darjeeling, ‘The Queen of the hills’. You will have to cover 65 km, that may take 2 ½ - 3 hours time. On the way witness lush green forests and tea gardens and have few glimpses of river Teesta as well as river Rangeet. You may take a pause at the view point of 'Lovers Meet' to witness the confluence of river Teesta and Rangeet. After reaching at Darjeeling checks in to the hotel room. If you wish you can take some rest and then once again can spend time with yourself. Take a stroll on the mall or sit on a peripheral bench in Chowrasta for a while, relax & enjoy the ambience and watch the activities on a clear day or a clear moonlit night Kanchenjunga will be always there with you to give you company. Early morning 3 point sightseeing commence on the day. First point is Tiger Hill. World’s one of the best thing will happen to you when you witness the sunrise from Tiger Hill. The changing colours of Mt. Kanchenjunga surely will leave you mesmerised. Then you will proceed to visit old Ghoom monastery one of the oldest Tibetan monasteries built in Darjeeling. Now it’s time to see Batasia Loop where the toy train takes a dramatic loop and negotiates an altitude of 140 ft. This tour will be over by 8:30am.
After getting back to your hotel have your breakfast and gear up for second round sightseeing. First you will visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute where you can see the climbing walls and a museum filled with artefacts and gears used by Tenzing Norgay for his first expedition to Mt Everest. Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is your second destination. You may see for the first time snow Leopard, Clouded Leopard and Red Panda over here. Are you an adventurer from your inner heart? Then Tenzing Rock is the right place for you. Here you can let loose your inner adventurer and do rock climbing with a help of a guide even if you don’t know the basic. Now it is time to pay a visit to Tibetan Refugee self-help Centre. You will see Tibetan men and women making exquisite hand crafted items like woollen shawls & carpets, carved wooden crafts, leather jackets, coats and lots of other items. Darjeeling visit is incomplete without seeing the lush green tea garden rolling over the hills. Cable car or the Ropeway is another attraction of the day for you. Riding this allows you to enjoy the picturesque view of the valley. Travelling over the clouds might give you a feel of slight chill but you can enjoy that too. Your last destination of the day is Japanese temple. This is a Peace Pagoda, here you can feel the peace and tranquillity since it is known as the sign of brotherhood and harmony. Have your lunch on the way. This tour will take around 4-5 hrs depending upon the road condition. Take some rest at the hotel then take evening stroll and relax in the Shrubbery Nightingale Park 10 minutes walk from Mall an ideal place for a relaxing with your loved ones. After breakfast at hotel your day begins with a 60 km drive towards picturesque Mirik Lake. It is approximately 2 hours drive. The drive is through scenic roads with occasional stoppage for photography. Mirik is a small picturesque town famous for its orange orchards and Sumendu Lake or Mirik Lake Surrounded by lush tea gardens, orange orchards, cardamom plantations and forests of tall, dark Japanese Cedars which are quite alluring sight. Enjoy the beauty of this small town while boating in Mirik Lake or take a tour around the lake riding on a horse. Have a cosy lunch after exploration of Mirik.
Thereafter you will be taken to visit Pasupati Market in Nepal on the way back to Darjeeling .The market is full of imported electronic gadgets, jackets, perfumes & cosmetics and clothes. The main market is about 1km walk from the border. Be careful about the fakes. Many items sold here are too cheap to be good. The Market is located in Nepal area. Return back to Darjeeling and you are free for the evening to stroll at Chowrasta or relax at hotel. Stay Overnight at Darjeeling.
Breakfast at the hotel and after breakfast bid farewell to Darjeeling and start your 3hrs journey towards Siliguri (approx 78km). The drive is through Rohini offering you with the breathtaking view of Siliguri along with lush green tea gardens and adjacent valley. After arriving at NJP your tour of Overall Darjeeling for 4N/5D will come to an end.
